The frog is a preferred food for bass, pike and other gamefish. Frog lures come in several varieties, including hard-plastic versions with dangling treble hooks, softer-plastic hollow body frogs with double upturned hooks that ride against the body and come over weeds and wood without snagging, and very soft plastic frogs designed to be used with a slightly weighted Texas rig hook. Hard-plastic versions are designed for open-water use. These topwater frogs may come with concave faces to catch water and create more surface disturbance. Hollow body frogs and soft plastic versions see most use in heavy vegetation, but their weedless properties are beneficial any time you’re fishing heavy cover.
