Bobby Garland Crappie Baits Adds 6 NEW Colors

Whether based on forage, conditions or mood, crappie can be very selectve about colors. These great new colors from Bobby Garland will keep you ahead of the game.

Crappie fishing expert Terry Blankenship believes that only a few crappie (and people) might, and be able to pass on the temptation from what he calls the “Snickers Test.” It’s a scenario that makes perfect sense when he explains it during his how-to crappie catching seminars, and the many nodding heads among the audiences indicate they understand the analogy perfectly. More proof comes from the fact Blankenship seemingly never has a bad day on his home waters – Missouri’s Lake of the Ozarks.

Here's his description of the Snickers Test. “I’ve just finished a big meal, and I’m stuffed to the gills and swear I can’t take another bite. I move from the dining table to my recliner, sit back to relax in front of the TV. Then I see it: the bowl of the little Snickers snack-size bars sitting in the bowl on top of the table alongside. Impulsively, I’ll grab one or two, and down they go. I believe crappie react to my lures in a similar way, eating a tempting morsel because it’s there, the right thing in the right place, whether the fish are hungry or not. I hold that vision in my mind as I select and present my lures throughout the day. Sometimes, the trigger to a crappie’s Snickers attack might be the lure’s shape, and often it’s a color. I’m constantly experimenting with both.”

Crappie have a reputation of being smorgasbord eaters, with their preferences changing often and seemingly on a whim. Clearly choices do matter when it comes to our own food selections day in and day out, and crappie are no different.

That’s why having great colors has always been important to Bobby Garland Crappie Baits, and why there’s a long list of perennial angler favorites from the brand as proof, including Monkey Milk, Blue Ice, Blue Thunder, Cajun Cricket, Electric Chicken, and so many more. For a new color to make it into the Bobby Garland lineup, it has to be something really special. No doubt these all-new, just-released color introductions will please fish and fishermen to the highest expectations. Let’s take a look at each: Sandfly, Fried Shad, Hummingbird, Cherry Lime, Hot Tater and Plum Fun.

Sandfly

There aren’t many prominent browns among the most popular crappie bait colors That’s somewhat surprising because the freshwater environment is full of brown things that crappie feed upon, including minnows, insects and crustaceans. New color Sandfly is likely to be a brown bait that breaks into the prestigious top class of crappie favorites, and in short order.

Sandfly features a solid brown color, one that’s deeper than fishing’s well-known “Pumpkin” hue, but what brings the bait to life are the generous concentrations of small copper, gold, red, and silver hologram flake from head to tail. The combination demands attention as Sandfly reflects light in many colors and directions. Sandfly will fit the bill for fishing in clear or stained water conditions.

Fried Shad

Anything that’s fishy and fried has to be tasty, and Fried Shad has the right cooked look to appeal to most any crappie’s appetite. Fried Shad, whether in a back/belly laminate or a head/tail combo, is all about contrast. The back or body, depending on the particular Bobby Garland series, is black with heavy doses of multi-colored hologram flake. Whereas, the belly or tail is a bright solid orange with no flake. The coloration makes the bait really standout as an easy meal among a school of baitfish, and also imitates bottom critters like crayfish. The black and orange combination makes Fried Shad a good option for stained or muddy water.

Hummingbird

The name Hummingbird clearly describes this new color’s iridescent purple sheen that magically seems to change shades with every twist and turn the bait makes.

Available as laminates in some Bobby Garland baits, and as head/tail combos in others, both versions scream “eat me” to crappie. The back or head is comparable to the popular Junebug color, but it’s loaded with silver hologram flake and larger green flake that work together to really make this color hum in sunlight. Belly or tail is rich, medium purple with a small dose of silver hologram flake.

Purples have been carving their way into more and more crappie anglers tackleboxes in recent years because of the color’s versatility. Hummingbird naturally transitions to different conditions since purple gathers light to almost glow in clear water, yet also takes on a darkside to standout in dark water.

Cherry Lime

Just hearing the name Cherry Lime creates instant visions of refreshing crappie fishing outings on scenic waters, but just wait until you actually see how “cool” these two great colors mesh. Think sweet cherry drink with a slice of lime on top.

Again, in some Bobby Garland body styles Cherry Lime is a laminate, and in others a head/tail combo. The back or head is a deep opaque lime green, and the belly or tail is a rich hot pink. Neither body part has any flake, so Cherry Lime is all about two solid and bright colors complimenting each other to a T. Cherry Lime has “crappie lure” written all over it, and it’s going to stand out in clear water much like it does in a tackle box.

Hot Tater

Hot Tater combines two of crappie fishing’s best colors – pink and white – into the awesome-swimming Bobby Garland Slab Hunt’R series. The color is a laminate, with the bait’s back being bright bubblegum pink and the belly getting the catch ‘em anywhere bone white.

Pink and white crappie baits have long been top-tier color choices in the crappie fishing world, but until now the combo has never been available in a crappie swimbait like the Slab Hunt’R that sports the easiest swimming tail regardless of retrieve speed. Fish either of the lure’s two sizes with the greatest of confidence in clear or muddy water.

Plum Fun

Whether casting, trolling or vertical jigging, the Bobby Garland Stroll’R in this new head/tail color combo is just Plum Fun. Of course, with plum in its name there’s going to be some purple in this bait somewhere and it’s found right where all the Stroll’Rs action is – in the tail. The purple tail also gets flash from blue flake scattered throughout.

Plum Fun features a solid black body heavily adorned with gold and royal blue flake. The result is a  sparkling look deep into its foundation for some crazy flash-attraction appeal. The Stroll’R has long been considered the best long-line trolling bait because of its heavy-thumping tail action and that means this new Plum Fun color is good for all water conditions.

The new Bobby Garland colors are available now in several popular Bobby Garland styles. See which series get which colors in the table that follows.
