The Why? on Spring Baitfish & Craw Bait Picks
This bundle was built for anglers who want to effectively target pre-spawn Smallmouth. Smallmouth Bass move up shallow from their deep wintering holes and feed on baitfish first thing in the spring. The Sneaky Underspin paired with the dropkick shad is a power finesse presentation that mimics the baitfish smallmouth are eating, and the blade helps draw them in.
The Dropkick Shad can also be fished on a ball head if smallmouth aren't committing to the underspin flash, or if conditions are super calm. You want a small minnow imitator to cover water with. These fish group up tight and move a lot in the spring, so you need to cover a bunch of water to find them. When you find them, you find a lot of fish!
Once you find them with the moving baits...slow the presentation down (with craw baits)!
A big part of the Smallmouth’s diet in the spring are craws that have just immerged and are still lethargic. They are crawling all over the bottom and are easy targets for smallmouth. The Juvy Craw/Mini Pro Tube Head and Snack Craw/Finesse Jig combos were chosen to offer two complimentary and proven craw imitations for slowly picking off the school when you've located the fish.
