Paint Shop Spotlight - Norman Speed N Jelly Craw - Bait School Bite Spec
Bait School Bite Spec
Lure: The Norman Speed N in Jelly Craw
When: Early Spring/Winter
Where: Highland Reservoirs, River Systems (Lake Guntersville, Alabama River)
Why? The Norman Speed N is a sleeper pick of an early spring crankbait that could very well win you some money! This little beauty cashed some seriously big checks in the 2020 Bassmaster Classic at Lake Guntersville where two of the top-5 competitors both were using it primarily. But why? Well, the Speed N has a very tight wobble from its unique body and lip placement. It also has the uncanny ability to dip and dart through thick wooded cover or vegetation. Not to also mention the butyrate plastic body creates such a brilliant, dull thud sound that bass can’t stand!
How to Fish: Chunk and wind, baby! This is the name of the game with the Speed N crankbait. Begin on large expansive flats, coves, points, rip rap banks or any fish holding structure. Burn it over the top, crank it into cover, or rip through grass. When this bait is moving it’s doing the work to attract bites. It’s also best to throw this lure with a parabolic crankbait rod with a slow action.
Look for obvious fish holding structure for this time of year, such as: flooded trees, rip rap banks, stumps, laydowns, and submergent grass.
