Bobby Garland Crappie Baits is proud to announce the release of two new pieces of terminal tackle: Head Turn’R and BrushOff jigheads. Both were designed to offer crappie anglers simple solutions in an era of forward-facing live sonar.

Of course, the problems solved by these new products have long preceded live technology, and the Head Turn’R and BrushOff will also provide great advantages for anglers who do not rely on the latest tech to catch crappie.

Head Turn’R

Single blade underspins have long been the standard for bladed jigheads in crappie fishing. Most feature an elongated head with a small Colorado or Indiana blade on the underside and are used mostly for casting, trolling and vertical jigging.

Aside from pressured crappie being very conditioned to the sights and sounds of these types of jigheads, the fact that the blade is set on a fixed point limits an angler’s ability to use them effectively across techniques and situations.

Bobby Garland’s Head Turn’R offers a unique solution: free-rotating dual willow blades. The balanced head has been bored through horizontally to allow the blades 360 degrees of rotation.

The jighead comes assembled with silver willow blades and can be customized with Bobby Garland Slab Tickler blades. Willow blades offer natural flash and shape making them the ideal choice to pair with soft plastic jigs.

The Head Turn’R comes in 1/8- and 1/16-ounce sizes and is offered in Mo’ Glo Pink, Mo’ Glo Ghost and Mo’ Glo Chartreuse. It fits snug with most 2-inch to 3-inch soft plastic baits.

The concept for the design was the brainchild of legendary Mississippi crappie angler Brad Chappell. Chappell came to prominence in the crappie community as a master long-line troller on various tournament trails. Prior to forward facing and live sonar many design innovations in crappie fishing came from pulling and pushing baits through the water column.

However, times have changed, and so has Chappell. He is now a full-time guide, utilizing the latest technologies, and hosts The Crappie Connection, a podcast and live series that has become THE source for the latest in crappie fishing information/education across the country.

Chappell recognized the need for a versatile jighead that could be fished effectively behind the boat as well as on the screen.

The Head Turn’R was developed to pair perfectly with common trolling and casting baits like the 2.5” Stroller, 2.25” Slab Hunt’R, 2.25” Swim’R, 2” Swimming Minnow and 2” Hyper Grub. It also works great for vertical presentations in standing timber, under docks as well as for suspended fish and roamers when paired with baits like the 2” Original Baby Shad, 2” & 3” Slab Slay’R, 2.5” Pile Diver, 2.5” Slab Dockt’R, 2.25” Mayfly and 1.75” Live Roam’R.

For anglers utilizing forward facing live sonar, the Head Turn’R has incredible visibility on screen. A cool feature of watching it on the graph is the pronounced bubble lines created on each side of the bait from the blades.

Bobby Garland fishing staff were amazed during testing at the response rate from the most lethargic crappie. Interest and attention were evident with each cast, even those that didn’t result in a bite.

No matter the style of crappie fishing you employ or body of water you fish, you’re sure to find a go-to application for this jighead.

BrushOff

It’s no secret that a healthy portion of crappie fishing is done in and around brush, standing timber and log jams. It’s also no secret that these areas claim countless tackle products.

Brush or weed guards are not a novel concept and have a wide array of offerings in the bass fishing community. However, crappie anglers have often been left to improvise or use products that miss the mark.

There have been two main complaints from crappie anglers when it comes to this type of jighead:

1.      Head and hook sizes are too big for a wide range of crappie baits.

2.      Guards are too stiff and inhibit hooksets or are too light and still get snagged.

Bobby Garland’s BrushOff jighead offers a solution to both. The BrushOff comes in 1/16-, 1/30- and 1/50-ounce sizes and is available in Mo’ Glo Pink, Mo’ Glo Ghost and Mo’ Glo Chartreuse.

Twin stainless steel wire guards easily deflect off brush, but are flexible enough to allow for easy, stout hooksets. Stainless steel can be bent and clipped, making each jighead customizable to the angler’s needs.

The 1/30- and 1/50-ounce versions fit Bobby Garland’s Itty Bit Series jigs, giving summertime anglers a swift advantage on the water when schools are holding tight to cover.

Bobby Garland fishing staff were extremely impressed with the BrushOff during testing. The jighead proved to be snag-proof when kept on a slack-free line and held up to the strains of all day fish catching.

Crappie anglers can now feel confident hunting slabs in the thick stuff with the BrushOff jighead.
