Figure Out The Cold Front Soft Bite
Sometimes I find myself on clear water after a cold front and the water temperature is falling. Add to that a lot of boat traffic and bluebird skies and you have some tough fishing conditions.
This is when I go to the Carolina rig. I use an Excalibur Tungsten (Tg) weight on 15-pound Silver Thread Excalibur line with a 24-inch 12-pound leader. I tie on an Excalibur Tx3 3/0 Wide Gap Hook. The final piece is a 4 3/4-inch Watermelon Red Flake Houdini Worm.
Then I begin to fish long rocky or gravel points.
This type of fishing requires patience and attention to bites. Pay attention to how these bites occur and where on or beside the points they occur. Many times the bite feels like nothing more than dragging a leaf through the water. Many times when you actually feel the bite, you are actually feeling the fish spit the bait out.
When fish bite this soft, you won’t feel the bite unless you use a bait that the fish hold on to longer. YUM Houdini Worms are supercharged with Live Prey Technology (LPT) that makes the fish hold on just a little longer.
I have found that using the best available equipment is the key to figuring out the soft bite and this is the setup that has produced the best results.
