Suspending Bomber Pro 15AP Irresistible To Cold-Water Walleyes
The Bomber minnow imitator crankbait has long been known as a great jerkbait for cold-water sluggish bass. Over the years, however, many walleye anglers across the upper Midwest have discovered this lure to be an outstanding option for fishing walleyes in shallow water in both lakes and river systems. One of its most triggering characteristics for taking walleyes in shallow water is its ability to truly suspend within the water column. When trolled at slow speeds with periodic stalls or pauses, this lure will hang in the faces of some of the most neutral fish and trigger them to bite.
On Mille Lacs Lake, we see a very active walleye bite throughout the twilight periods in both spring and fall. These cold-water periods offer walleye movements to shallow waters to either spawn or to follow their migratory prey. Here is where I have had my best results with the Bomber Pro 15AP crankbait. Trolling these lures at very slow speeds (one to two miles per hour) is really where these lures shine for both active and neutral walleyes. Whether fishing rocks, weeds or wood, this lure functions the best when contact is made with the structure with slow, methodical sweep-and-pause trolling or casting approaches.
Water temps will help you dictate how much or how little action you provide with your rod and boat speeds. Generally the colder the water, the slower the speeds and longer the pauses between rod sweeps. This can be applied to either casting or trolling applications. This year was a perfect example that walleyes will hit a slowly trolled lure even in 35 degree water. Next time you are on your favorite walleye waters, give the Bomber Pro 15AP a try and find out what you’ve been missing.
