Five YUM Pros Bassmaster Classic Bound

Five members of YUM Bait Company’s elite pro staff will cap off outstanding fishing seasons by competing in the Bassmaster Classic Feb. 22-24 on Lake Hartwell. Terry Scroggins, Edwin Evers, Tim Horton, Alton Jones, and Dave Wolak all earned invitations into the exclusive field to compete in what is commonly dubbed the "Super Bowl of Bass Fishing." Terry "Big Show" Scroggins finished the BASS Elite Series season fourth in

Top Spots for Late Fall Fishing Fun

Cooling temperatures and shortening days signal tougher times ahead for many gamefish, and the result is a final feeding flurry that can translate into great fishing. Late fall also tends to offer smaller crowds of fishermen, which makes things extra nice for those anglers who do opt to get on the water. Fine opportunities abound in many areas and include numerous species of fresh- and saltwater gamefish. We’ve hand picked some of the best of the best: Port Mansfield, Texas Late fall through early spring is Bruce Shuler’s favorite time to wade the Laguna Madre, because that’s when the big speckled trout get active.

Bi-You Buzz Does More than Catch Fish

The counter-rotating blades of a BOOYAH Bi-You Buzz kick out a mighty broad spray, calling bass from far away; however, the impact of this twin-armed buzzbait extends beyond what it does on the water. The BOOYAH Bi-You Buzz has been designated as the latest Lure For a Cure - part of the Angling Against Cancer effort - and a portion of proceeds from every Bi-You Buzz sold will go to the V Foundation for Cancer Research. The Bi-You Buzz is the fourth edition of Lure for a Cure, but it takes on a different flavor than its predecessors, each of which was a collector’s set of pro-signature lures.

1-2-3 For Redfish

For BOOYAH pro staffer Chris Holleman and his father, Frank Holleman, a winning tournament strategy is as easy as 1-2-3. The Hollemans, who just locked up first place in the Jacksonville, Florida Division of the Xtreme Redfish Series points race with a victory in the final event of the season, have done almost all their damage with three baits: 1) BOOYAH Samurai Blades; 2) Cotton Cordell Red-Fins; 3) Heddon Super Spook Jrs.

Craw Papis For Everything!

Setting the hook into yet another Allegheny River smallmouth, I couldn’t help but think about the diversity of a YUM Craw Papi – and about its effectiveness. I was fishing a 2.75-inch Craw Papi on a 5/16-ounce BOOYAH Bed Bug jig, and the combination seemed perfect for hopping among the Allegheny’s boulders. Only a month earlier I’d found similar success with a 3.75-inch Craw Papi on the upper Mississippi River in Minnesota. However, the fish were slightly off the bottom and they seemed to favor a freer motion.

Wooly Bug Works Wonders for Lake St. Clair Smallmouths

Doug Cummings doesn’t hesitate when you ask him about his favorite lure for Lake St. Clair’s jumbo smallmouth bass. A YUM Wooly Bug is first on his list. Cummings, a St. Clair guide and serious threat to win any tournament held on Detroit’s backyard bronzeback factory, uses a host of offerings to bag big smallies at various times. However, the Wooly Bug is his go-to for giants, especially during the summer.

YUM Big Show Craw Huge for Matt Reed on Potomac

Matt Reed has a new favorite lure for punching mats of dense vegetation. Reed, who runs the YUM boat on the BASS Elite Series tour, finished third in the Capital Clash on the Potomac River, and he attributed a big part of his success to the YUM Big Show Craw. The Big Show Craw, brand new from YUM Bait Company and available soon from Lurenet.com, was designed by Terry "Big Show" Scroggins for flipping in very thick cover, and that’s exactly how Reed was using the 3 ½-inch crawfish imitation. "I was looking for the thickest stuff I could find. That was what the bait had to get through," Reed said.

YUM Pros Score Two Wins on BASS Northern Swing

YUM’s the word for big bags of northern-lake bass. If you question that, just look at the last two BASS Elite Series tournaments. Tim Horton and Edwin Evers scored back-to back-victories in the Elites, winning on lakes Champlain and Erie, respectively, and both relied heavily on YUM, with Live Prey Technology. Evers, who took first place in the Empire Chase at Lake Erie, used Green Pumpkin YUM Houdini Worms and goby imitations sprayed heavily with YUM Attractant to bring 65 pounds, 7 ounces of bass to the scales in three days.

Tim Horton Wins Huge at Lake Champlain

Tim Horton found a goldmine in Lake Champlain. Actually it was a pile of rocks, but to a pro angler competing for a $100,000 first prize and Angler of the Year points, a rockpile that’s loaded with quality bass is as good as gold. Horton methodically worked his goldmine for four days and ran away with first place in the Champion’s Choice, part of the Bassmaster Elite Series. Horton’s No. 1 tool throughout the four-day tournament was a BOOYAH Football Jig rigged with a YUM Craw Papi trailer; however, his winning arsenal also included a Bomber Fat Free Shad Jr.

Tips for Making Family Fishing Trips Fun

Summer days lend themselves to family outings, and few activities can provide more fun than taking your children to a nearby lake or stream for a couple hours of fishing. With summer just hitting full stride, we’ve put together a list of suggestions for making the most of every family fishing trip. Focus on the Children: If your young anglers are quite young or inexperienced, leave your own rod and reel at home.

75 Years and Counting – Largemouth Bass Record Remains

"If it hadn’t been raining 75 years ago, we wouldn’t be here today," Bill Baab told a crowd that had assembled beside Montgomery Lake, an unassuming oxbow off Georgia’s Ocmulgee River. The group had gathered to commemorate the world record largemouth bass at the actual site of the historic catch and to dedicate a new roadside marker that would be put up by the Georgia Wildlife Resources Division.

Go Back to Texas for More May Bass

Alton Jones goes back to the basics during late spring, throwing Texas-rigged worms at visible targets. "During May and early June, I get really one-dimensional in my approach to bass fishing," the Texas pro said. "I fish the same way on lakes throughout the country at that time, and it’s a time when I’ve enjoyed some of my best success." Jones’ success includes more than $1 million career BASS earnings, four BASS wins, including an Elite 50 event and a MegaBucks tournament, and trips to 10 Bassmaster Classics and three FLW Championships.

Terry "Big Show" Scroggins Wins Again

Terry "Big Show" Scroggins won his second consecutive BASS Southern Open this weekend – with both wins following shortened practices and both using YUM Houdini Worms as major tools. Scroggins, who now has five BASS wins to his credit, arrived at South Carolina’s Santee Cooper lakes later than the bulk of the other competitors in the most recent event because he made the final 12 (and ended up finishing fourth) in the BASS Elite Series Southern Challenge on Lake Guntersville.

March

One in the Books for Elite Series Pros

With the Bassmaster Elite Series opener on Texas’ Lake Amistad complete, YUM pro Edwin Evers finds himself in a familiar place. Finishing in eighth place, the Oklahoma angler made yet another Top 10 in a major event. The winner of three BASS tournaments in his young career, Evers also has notched three second-place finishes and four thirds - and he has finished in the top 10 in an amazing 27 of 98 BASS events he has entered.

Terry Scroggins Wins Bassmaster Event with XCalibur Xr50

With the Bassmaster Classic having been last week in Alabama and the BASS Elite Series opening next week in southern Texas, it would have made sense for Terry Scroggins to have skipped this week’s BASS Southern Open event on Florida’s Kissimmee chain of lakes. Scroggins’ knows the Kissimmee Chain well, though, and he had already won three BASS events in Florida (including one on the same waters), making the allure more than he could resist. Good thing.

YUM Pros Do Well in Bassmaster Classic

When all the fish had been weighed in at the Bassmaster Classic in Birmingham, Alabama, two YUM pros were in the Top 12, and a third was in the top 25. Terry "Big Show" Scroggins finished second in the world championship of bass fishing place, Tim Horton finished in the No. 12 spot, and Alton Jones finished 22nd.

10 Essential Tools for Early-Season Hawgs

10 Essential Tools for Early-Season Hawgs Early spring is prime time for catching giant largemouths and smallmouths alike, but you must have the right tools for the task. What follows is a "Dream Team" list. 1) Smithwick 5 ½-inch Suspending Rattlin’ Rogue – Clown The suspending jerkbait that put suspending jerkbaits on the map, a Rogue is the bait of choice for giant smallies when they stage just off spawning flats. YUM Adds Big Guns to Arsenal

YUM Adds Big Guns to Arsenal YUM Bait Company has added three of the hottest young sticks on tour for the upcoming BASS Elite Series season. Edwin Evers, Terry Scoggins and David Wolak have all joined a pro staff that already included Zell Rowland, Alton Jones and Tim Horton. Oklahoma pro Edwin Evers has quickly established himself as one of the most consistent anglers on tour and a serious threat to win anywhere. He notched half a dozen Top 10 finishes in 2006 alone and in fact has finished in the Top 10 in 25 percent of the BASS tournaments he has ever fished. Only 32 years old, he has already amassed more than $800,000 in career earnings and has notched three BASS wins, three 2nd place finishes and three 3rds.
