YUM Wooly Beavertail Sees Action Year-round

This is one of my favorite year-round lures. When there is a cold front with bluebird skies or a prompt east wind, I like to rig the Beavertail on a 1/4-ounce Excalibur Tg Tungsten weight with a 4/0 Excalibur Tx3 Wide Gap hook. I tie all this onto 20-pound Silver Thread line.

With this setup, I am ready to go flipping. I can’t tell you how much money this rig and style has put in my pocket. I flip it in the same places that I would jig. Bass hold this bait for a long time, giving you plenty of time to get all the slack out for a better hook set.

I also like to fish this bait in the spring when bass move into the shadows. I rig it weightless with a 4/0 Excalibur Tx3 hook on 17-pound Silver Thread line. I like to throw around shallow pockets and flats that has brush or grass. Just throw to the structure, let it fall and then move it with short jerks. Be sure to watch your line for any movement that is not your own. The YUM Live Prey Technology is the key to this baits strike-producing qualities.
